Forgotten Heroes For Christmas

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Forgotten Heroes Synopsis: In Vietnam a group of Marines accept a mission to enter into neighboring Cambodia to pick up a defecting Russian General. Once across the border, a Russian officer not willing to let the general go so easily complicates the rescue when he pursues the group with Soviet Commando troops, and gives the Marines a little more trouble than they bargained for.

After a barrage of Hollywood films that have portrayed the American Soldier in a negative light, Jack Marino decided it was time to make a film that reveals the true nature of the military. The troops in Vietnam consisted of fathers, brothers, husbands, and sons. Each one of them were brothers in arms in that foreign land, with all of the same real emotions that one would expect them to have.

Jack Marino’s theatrical thank you to our forgotten heroes begins with a meeting near the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC. The pair of old friends reminisce, and send us back to a time when war in Vietnam was still a reality.

The discussion between the two veterans leads to the memory of a mission into Cambodia. A firefight erupts and it turns out to be an entanglement with Russian troops that are not even supposed to be there. As the firefight comes to its conclusion, two American Marines hiding nearby observe a Russian general, played by veteran actor William Smith. Later, the intel comes back on the general, and it turns out he wants to defect, and it is up to a team of United States Marines to bring him in… from Cambodia.

As the film works its way through the base camp in Vietnam, into the dark, moist jungles, and across the border into Cambodia, the realism of the scenery reaches out an pulls you into the action. The characters are rich with unique flavor, and the action rivals any of the war scenes Hollywood has to offer.

Forgotten Heroes also offers a quaint addition for those of you who have been fans of Hollywood films for generations, because the film carries a feel consistent with the war movies of the 1970s, as well it should.

Jack Marino has crafted a Vietnam movie that patriots have been waiting to see for a long time. The characters are real Americans in a situation that insists they be the best they have to offer. Forgotten Heroes is the perfect gift for veterans, and an appropriate way to say, “Thank you,” and “Welcome Home.”

Angels Over The Yankees

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The Anaheim Angels (I refuse to use the Los Angeles addition to the name) has been my team since the mid-seventies. I hung with the Halos through the good times and the bad times (mostly rough times, back then). When the new millenium arrived, the Angels picked up Mike Scioscia as their manager, and from that time forward became a consistent winner (my Los Angeles friends constantly remind me it took a Dodgers catcher to make the Angels a winning team). The most gratifying part of the new Angels, I have to admit, is how the Angels have the Yankees number.

Last night, before a rowdy sell-out crowd in Anaheim, the Yankees lost their 18th game of their last 23 games at Angel Stadium. Andy Petitte, admittedly one of those pitchers I respect greatly both on and off the field, threw a great game, but was not enough to break Anaheim’s strangle-hold on New York’s beloved Yankees.

If only the Angels could have the same kind of success against the Red Sox.

John Stossel Going To Fox

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Obama doesn’t like Fox News, nor does any of the other leftist sheep. Fox News has never really been “conservative,” but as time is passing, it seems to be becoming more so. Alan Colmes has departed, and Glenn Beck has arrived, for example.

Today Obama did five Sunday shows, including Univision (Spanish), but not Fox News. Remember, he doesn’t like Fox News (and hasn’t been shy about talking trash on the news network, either).

Could you imagine how crazy things would have been if Bush has decided to be on only Fox News, and told MSNBC and CNN to take a hike? The backlash would have been incredible.

Jon Stossel has had enough of ABC, and so now he is deciding to move over to Fox News. What is interesting about that is the crap he is getting for his decision.

Serena Williams Tennis Outburst

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Tennis is one of those “watched occasionally, when nothing else is on” kind of sports around my household. If it wasn’t for the Internet, I probably would have never learned about Serena Williams’ temper-tantrum.

She went into a childish tirade because of a bad call by the judge. Granted, after later review, the official was wrong when he called a “foot fault” on Williams at the U.S. Open, but the reaction by Serena was uncalled for, and a little more evidence of the unraveling of personal responsibility in America. Appropriately, Serena has been fined for her childish moment of rage, as well she should be.

Serena’s reaction to the call by the judge included a lot of profanity, yelling, less-than appropriate gesticulations, accusations, and threats. It is a surprise that she didn’t start jumping up and down, or fall on her back and start kicking, during her tirade. Even well known hot-head John McEnroe said it was a bit much - and that’s sayin’ something.

A Media Manifesto

By Kevin Price

Although every media has an opinion section, you want to hope that you are largely getting real news and not a political agenda. That “hope” is quickly becoming a joke thanks to the clear agenda of the “mainstream” media.

For example, much of the mainstream media has created a “profile” of what a “Tea Party” member looks like. He is white, angry, and racist. His interest isn’t nearly as much about taxes and government control, we are told, but has much more to do with the fact we have a black president. This assumption about Tea Party members was challenged by a recent health care rally being held by President Obama. Sure there were protesters, but this particular one even included the favorite media stereotype of all — someone actually carrying a gun.

Glenn Beck's Ratings Despite Leftist Attacks

By Douglas V. Gibbs

It is almost comical - but it is typical. Whenever the Left tries to do something wicked, it always backfires on them.

Liberal groups have been boycottig the Glenn Beck Program, and he has been under constant attack by the Left.

The result? “Pure Ratings Gold.”

According to Newsmax, On Wednesday, Beck had more than 3 million viewers, just slightly behind Bill O’Reilly’s No. 1 show, which airs in prime time…

MSNBC and the Black Gun Owner

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The Left will do anything to prove their lies to be the truth, even if it means lying to do so.

Leftists are convinced that Conservatism runs in line with Nazism, even though Nazism is National Socialism - a platform that was very close to what the liberal Democrats have now as their agenda (minus the genocidal atrocities).

Leftists are also convinced that members of the Right are violent racists. To try to drive this one home, MSNBC deceptively edited video from a Phoenix rally near where Obama had addressed the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The video shows a man with a semi-automatic assault rifle slung over his shoulder and resting across his back. Contessa Brewer, the female commentator, says after showing the man with the rifle on his back (close-up shot of rifle, and white shirt background), and another person with a sidearm, that “about a dozen at the event in all were visible carrying firearms, and the reason we are talking about this, a lot of talk here, because people feel like - yes, there are 2nd Amendment Rights, for sure - but also there are a lot of questions about whether this has racial overtones. Here you have a man of color in the presidency and white people showing up with guns strapped to their waists or their legs.”

Michele Obama Lacks Class

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The First Lady, the President’s Wife, is usually thought of as a woman of class, lady-like demure, and fashion that reflects modest standards. She is an important addition to the presidential personality, but must remain in the background, so as to not challenge, or overshadow, the presidential image. The occasional news story about her being involved with charities, or attending a special dinner, is expected. Constant feigning over her is not what the media is supposed to do.

The love affair the press has with Michele Obama borders on obsession. They marveled at her sleeveless dresses, and jumped for joy when she spoke strongly as a woman of independence (ignoring her gaffes, or comments about how she failed to love this country until her husband received a political promotion).

Favre Signs With The Vikings

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Love for your job is an admirable thing. Passion is a rare gem. “Enough already” is annoying.

Favre has decided to unretire, again. And this time he held out so long I was actually beginning to believe he was going to stay retired.

I should have known better. He has been the kind of individual that is incapable of understanding the word, “quit.” His persistence, even in the face of impossible odds, is one of the traits that made him a great quarterback. But he has got to realize that his time came, and he was great - now it is over. He should have retired as a Packer and left it at that. I understand the Brett loves the game, but when will he realize that enough is enough?

Sickening Nostalgia of Woodstock

By Warner Todd Huston

Sickeningly, an effluvium of nostalgia over the debacle concert near the town of Woodstock, New York in August of 1969 is everywhere. Its the big 4-0. We should take this anniversary to remember that the catch phrase of the Woodstock generation eventually became “don’t trust anyone over 30.” In the case of the white wash of what really happened with the concert in Max Yasgur’s field, the warning is fitting because the truth seems to be forgotten for the fluffy propaganda of how wonderful the concert was. The concert is also emblematic of some of the vapid 60’s generation - by no means all of them, but the worst of them, to be sure.
